Board of Directors
Blackburn Study Center is blessed with nine active Board Members who faithfully serve the center with their time and abilities.
John and Deborah Holt, founding members and parents of three former Blackburn students, have served for 25 years. John and Deborah bring strong administrative and financial wisdom to lead the board, and John has been the president for many years. Because of their membership at North Park Church (NPC), our long-time facility, BSC enjoys a healthy cooperative relationship with NPC and we are so thankful for it.
Valerie Porter and her husband David, a retired board member, are also founding members and parents of six former Blackburn students. As a former teacher, Valerie appreciates the beauty of classical and Christian pedagogy and helps to infuse that into the center's curriculum.
Dae and Chad Wilshire joined the board in 2022 and have two lovely daughters who recently graduated from Blackburn. Chad is not only a financial whiz, but also, an amateur carpenter and uses both gifts to serve the center. Dae brings strong skills in understanding the academic progression and its necessary curriculum for the center. She never seems to tire in her service.
Kristen and Paul Roman joined the board in 2023, and Kristen, an attorney by trade, has been our on-site administrator for those years. They have a wonderful student at the center. Paul, like Chad, is a builder, mover and shaker and helps in many ways with the facilities as well as leadership decisions. Not only do we depend on Kristen's well-trained mind for daily decisions dealing with our students, parents and tutors; but also, to help shape the center’s policy.
Evelyn and Rut Etheridge joined the board in 2024. The Etheridges and their five children have raised the bar at the center for wise intelligence and beautiful character. Evelyn is our dialectic level literature and writing tutor as well as a grammar tutor. Evelyn brings years of excellent teaching experience as well as current knowledge of classical and Christian material. Rut enjoys the blessing of her knowledge as he guides decision-making at the policy level of board responsibilities.
We are thankful for these individuals and families who love the Lord and serve our Blackburn family with their God-given wisdom.
